From April 8 to 12, the International University of Tourism and Hospitality hosts a Science Week dedicated to the “Day of Science Workers”, with an emphasis on the topic “The role of science in the development of Turkestan tourism”. At the first stage, on April 8, a round table entitled “Tourism in Central Asia: Challenges and opportunities” was held, where Kemal Kantarji, an outstanding professor of tourism from Alaaddin Keikubat University, Republic of Turkey, presented a report on “Tourism in Central Asia: opportunities and challenges”. The event was attended by scientists from the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Karakalpakstan and IUTH University. The current state of the tourism industry in Central Asian countries was discussed, problems and development prospects were analyzed, and the ratings of Central Asian countries on the World Economic Forum Tourism and Travel Competition Index were considered. An important aspect was the emphasis on the role of the Silk Road idea in promoting tourism products in the region. In the light of the discussions, the need to develop effective solutions for the sustainable development of tourism in this region was expressed.
The conference also focused on the importance of joint efforts of scientists and institutes from different Central Asian states, as well as regional cooperation to solve common problems and maximize opportunities in the tourism industry. Cultural and historical heritage, including the Silk Road, has also been recognized as a powerful driver for tourism development and economic growth in the region. The event became a platform for the exchange of ideas, the development of partnerships and the promotion of sustainable development of the tourism sector in Central Asia.
