From June 16 to 22, 2025, within the framework of the grant project AP23490104 “Study of the Information Potential of Religious Tourism Sites in the Turkestan Region”, project participants A. Maldybek, K. Karatyshkanova, and A. Kozhan conducted a research trip to the city of Samarkand.
During the visit, the information potential of a number of religious and historical sites in Samarkand—heir to ancient Afrasiab and the former capital of the Timurid state—was examined. The study covered Registan Square, the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the Shakhi-Zinda architectural complex, the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, the Ulugh Beg Observatory, as well as the mausoleums of Khidr and the Prophet Daniel.
The research results show that in recent years Samarkand has been actively developing into a major cultural center focused on tourism development. The experience gained highlights the importance of preserving spiritual and cultural values in the development of religious sites in the Turkestan region.
